Four Great Reasons to Drink Enough Water

Our body comprises of around 75 percent of water. Body needs water to regulate temperature and provide the means for nutrients to travel to the organs. Water also transports oxygen to cells, removes waste and protects our joints and organs.

We lose water through urination, respiration and by sweating. If you live active life, you lose more water than if you are sedentary. Symptoms of mild dehydration include chronic pains in joints and muscles, lower back pain and headaches etc.

It may be difficult to drink enough water on a busy day. But be sure you have water handy at all times by keeping a bottle for water with you when you are working, traveling, or exercising. If you get bored with plain water, add a bit of lemon or lime for a touch of flavor.

Here are 4 powerful reasons to drink water:-

Losing Weight
Water is one of the best tools for weight loss, first of all because it often replaces high-calorie drinks like sodas, juices and tea/coffee with a drink that doesn't have any calories. Secondly, it is also a great appetite suppressant and often when we think we are hungry, we are actually thirsty. Water has no fats, no calories, no carbohydrates and no sugar. Drink plenty of clean water to shed extra burden of fats on your body.

Gaining Energy
Being dehydrated can sap your energy and make you feel tired and exhausted -- even mild dehydration of as little as 1 or 2 percent of your body weight. If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated -- and this can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness, dizziness and other symptoms. The quickest way to regain energy and vibrancy is to hydrate your body with clean and safe water.

Maintaining Healthy Skin
Like all the other parts of our body, our skin also requires a certain level of water to function properly. The enzymes present in the skin cells require water to generate new cells after the dead cells are sloughed off. To keep the skin and its cells hydrated, you must drink plenty of water every day. If at any point of your life, you experience dry skin, start drinking water in a regular manner as it is an indication of dehydration.

Always try to maintain the skin barrier. Skin barrier is a layer of your skin which is rich in fats like fatty acids and cholesterol. In its healthy conditions, it is responsible for maintaining the moisture in your body but in case it goes wrong, it starts creating problems for you. It results in dry and dehydrated skin which is exposed to many other diseases. As a result of those problems, you lose the smoothness, glow and healthiness of your skin and it looks dull and lifeless.

Regulating Digestion
Drinking one glass of water before taking in food produces a domino effect. Water immediately passes into the intestine and is absorbed. Within ½ an hour, almost the same amount of water is secreted into the stomach through its glandular layer in the mucosa swelling from underneath, readying the stomach for food breakdown. The act of digestion of solid food depends upon this action. When acid is poured onto incoming food, enzymes are activated, the food is broken down, and the fluid mass formed can then pass into the intestine for the next phase. Mucous consists of 98% water. It is in the mucus layer where the natural buffer state is established. The efficiency of this procedure depends solely on water. There must be enough water to hydrate the mucus glands; otherwise, there is little protection from the strong stomach acids.
